Incentives not to drive
Providing incentives that encourage people to choose other ways to travel can help reduce the number of car journeys to and from your site. Such incentives are also key tools in generating acceptance of measures that restrict the availability of employee parking.
Alternatives to free parking
Provide financial incentives such as free or subsidised public transport tickets or some form of alternative benefit to a free parking space.
Employers can, for example, introduce a cycle-to-work scheme to provide discounts on cycles and cycling equipment for employees.
Employers running subsidised bus pass and cycle-to-work schemes may also be eligible for tax discounts.
Non-driving bonuses and benefits schemes
The employer can give points for each day a car is not brought onto site and exchange them for cash or additional leave at the end of the year.
Some companies run a bonus scheme, which can be exchanged for the employee's choice of benefit at end of year.
