The University of Edinburgh`s King`s Buildings complex is 2km south of Edinburgh City Centre. The promotion of cycling to staff and students is a key measure of the University`s Travel Plan. It also supports its environmental targets, its pursuit of a Healthy Working Lives Award and has secured it a Cycle Friendly Employer Award.
The University has invested in cycling infrastructure, including showers, cycle parking and storage, and pool bikes for staff. It has worked to promote cycling through various events, support for a Bicycle Users Group and the provision of free training for novice or returning cyclists.
It has introduced business mileage allowance at the Inland Revenue recommended rate of 20p per mile, interest-free loans for bike purchases, free monthly bike checks and has negotiated discounts with local bike shops.
